None of the apps I used ever offered a way to track analysts recommendations and my investments history over the long term. I wrote this to find out if I really did make (or loose) as much as the analysts said.
Using this app I was able to detmine when and what to buy upon a recommendation out of my followed stocks.
What this ended up showing me is that some analysts are just full of smoke while some are better matched to my investing style.
StockApp shows and tracks general unrealized captial gains or losses for open positions as well as dividends received per postion. It also provides a symbol position summary - for example if you add shares over time. It's nice to know what your effective price per share is.
StockApp also keeps a history of closed trades just in case you decide you want to buy into one again. You can quickly see the history in your list, giving an answer to the question - "Did this work out for me the last time I bought this stock?"
Sortable columns allow you to quickly see which stocks pay more, which have more potential, and which ones are just paying 'too much' based on your personal preferences.
How about a monthly dividend or maybe a quarterly dividend paying stock? You can just type in the word 'monthly' and all monthly paying dividend stocks your traxcking will be listed. If stocks are not paying a dividend, (or in the case where a stock's dividend isn't showing yet), StockApp will show 'No Dividends!' in a red font color in certain key fields.
To compare a few stocks, type in multiple tickers with a space between each one. Your list will be filtered down to what you have typed in.
StockApps default view will show only active positions.
To see all your followed stocks, click the clear button and then check the 'Show all' stocks checkbox.
I used to buy stocks just on a recommendation.
Now I consult my list to see if I really want to get into another recommended stock.
StockApp has been a lifesaver for me and I believe it is worth every penny. It is also one of the reasons I started this website.
StockApp helps me calm my nerves when I feel a stock is loosing big. It allows me to see my per share cost, current profit or loss, and allows for clear thinking when re-evaluating a current postion.
Using this along with other tools, I've actually bought more when stocks go 'on sale'.
Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions or notice anything weird or anything that doesn't seem to be working as intended.
